A Temple Beyond Tradition: Spiritual Anchors for a Modern Community

The Jain Community Temple in Indore has been envisioned as more than a place of worship—it is a spiritual and social anchor for the community. The design respects traditional cultural expectations while reinterpreting them in a fresh, inclusive, and ecological manner.

By weaving together sacred pathways, landscaped grounds, and social gathering areas, the temple becomes a holistic space for reflection, learning, and community interaction.

Design Presentation

The guiding principle of the temple’s design is the spiral—symbolizing continuity, cyclical time, and the eternal pursuit of truth. This spiral is not just a path but a spatial experience: rising, dipping, and opening to views of the park and sky. Sacred spaces are woven into this path, ensuring that ritual sequences are maintained while framing moments of pause, reflection, and connection to nature.

A continuous spiral journey takes devotees through spaces in the culturally prescribed order, reimagined with light, views, and materials that enhance the spiritual experience.
The entire site functions as a landscape carpet—steps, amphitheaters, and shaded areas encourage gathering, sitting, and ecological balance through groundwater recharge.
Beyond prayer, the grounds are designed for people. Children’s play areas, shaded seating for parents, and multipurpose spaces create a lively community hub. The park transforms seasonally, becoming a market where residents connect, trade, and celebrate, reinforcing the temple as a true social and cultural heart.

On Site Progress

Casting the expansive roof has been both a challenge and a triumph—the dynamic, flowing form required precise structural framing and careful coordination on site. Each stage of the process reflects the balance of engineering innovation and architectural vision.
